Healthy Food Shopping Tips For Boomers

A once-simple trip to the grocery store can be a dizzying experience, one which also places more responsibility on boomers to be highly informed shoppers, says internationally-known Ashley Koff, R. D. She's on what she calls her 'qualitarian' mission, which doesn't include bad-for-you processed foods. Be a smart, healthy shopper and avoid some of the nearly 10,000 new processed-food products introduced each year with plenty of savvy marketing punch behind them--for you really are what you eat!

Quick Tip

Try to always be a day ahead in your cooking. If you follow this rule, then, when you get home from work, the family dinner will be waiting for you, rather than everyone waiting on supper. While you are heating up the meal you can be preparing for the next, or you can wait until everyone is fed before working on tomorrow. This puts the power back into your own hands by allowing you to cook when it best suits you while eliminating the stress caused by rushing.
